11 September: Focus on Fibromyalgia

What Do I Tell My Patient With Fibromyalgia?

Diagnosis, validation and individualised management in general practice.

Sam Bulten from Adapt Movement returns to build on his previous presentation on wholistic patient care. His knowledge and experience since completing a Master of Medicine in Pain Management informs his focus on listening, understanding each person’s unique experience, and offering personalized care. Simple, effective techniques often make the biggest difference in helping people live better lives.

Fibromyalgia has been debated, misunderstood and difficult to manage for decades. But our understanding is changing.

What does the latest evidence tell us about whether fibromyalgia is “real”? Is it actually a diagnosis of exclusion? And what do you say to the patient who asks, “Are you sure something else hasn’t been missed?”

This practical session follows one patient through the questions that commonly arise in general practice, including diagnosis, reassurance, treatment and what you can realistically do in a 15 minute consultation.

You may leave thinking about fibromyalgia a little differently.
